In a recent Blackbird.AI LinkedIn Live webinar, CEO Wasim Khaled discussed how AI has compressed the cost of influence campaigns, why legacy monitoring tools fail, and what keeps executives exposed to billion-dollar narrative risk.
The RAV3N Report: The 2026 State of Disinformation Narrative Intelligence, Blackbird AI’s annual survey of security, communications, and intelligence professionals, documents a widening gap between the scale of narrative threats and the capacity of most organizations to detect or respond to them. Close to 60% of surveyed organizations report that narrative attacks have affected them. Fewer than 20% of leaders expressed strong confidence in their detection capabilities. Khaled’s assessment: narrative attacks have become the most underestimated risk on the enterprise threat landscape, capable of erasing billions in market value while most organizations still lack the tools to see them coming.

Today, a single operator can now deploy campaigns that once required large teams and significant infrastructure. Generative AI tools and autonomous agents produce content across regions and languages at machine speed, and legacy monitoring platforms that rely on keyword tracking and sentiment analysis are trivial to manipulate. The threat actors behind these campaigns are often the same adversaries responsible for malware, ransomware, and network intrusions, which is why narrative risk has migrated from the communications department to the CSO, the CEO, and the board. Capital markets are a primary target: a false claim about a company’s solvency or a deepfaked executive statement can shift investor confidence within hours. Khaled pointed to the Bud Light case study, where $20 billion in market value disappeared in months, and noted that Gartner has estimated the cost of disinformation to the global economy will reach $500 billion per year.
“These automated systems or tradecraft can drive and amplify narratives at machine speed to influence perception,” Khaled said during the webinar. “It can change perceptions about people, brands, products, and policies. The key here is these technologies being used by opportunistic threat actors to change the narrative and often create massive financial, reputational, or even physical harm.”
The Way Forward: Key Takeaways for Organization Leaders
- Build hybrid fusion centers. Threat intelligence teams and crisis communications teams need shared infrastructure, shared signals, and coordinated response protocols. Neither function can address narrative risk alone.
- Replace legacy monitoring with narrative intelligence. Keyword tracking and sentiment analysis cannot distinguish synthetic campaigns from organic conversation. Organizations need technology that analyzes how narratives propagate, accelerate, and harden into belief.
- Treat narrative risk as an enterprise security requirement. The World Economic Forum ranked misinformation and disinformation as the number two global risk for 2026. War-gaming exercises show potential losses of 25% or more of market value. Waiting for a crisis to validate the investment is the most expensive option.
